Mayo 1-12 : Tyrone 1-11

A battling performance and 2 valuable league points is as good as anyone would have wanted or expected from a trip to Omagh. Tyrone, in their back yard, with or without their full squad, is always tough and one thing that impressed yesterday was the fact that Mayo took the game to Tyrone and deserved the win. Not surprising that these games get a bit 'physical' at times but it didn't seem like a dirty game despite the number of yellow cards and one red that were shown.

The rainy conditions and the 'pagoda' press box set the scene !!

Mayo used 4 second half subs -

The scoring rotation today was very different to last week v Galway with just 5 players making up the final tally. Ronaldson gets 1-6 of the 1-12 today, with other scores from Varley(2), A Moran (2), Parsons and McLoughlin.

Mayo hold out against a late Tyrone surge - just !!

Though we didn't score from the 58th minute to the end there can be no complaints even if the last few minutes were a bit tense. Indeed to counter that barren spell the fact is that Mayo had kept Tyrone scoreless for 23 minutes in the 2nd half, adding 6 points without reply over that period.
Tyrone may have been missing a few key players today - but so were Mayo and picking up 2 league points in the Tyrone back yard (or in anyone's back yard in this league) is a good day in the office. Again an impressive work rate was key to the success as was the mid field ball winning and distribution of 'Mark' McGarrity and Parsons.
So, fantastic result and great start to the league with 4 points out of 4 - as have the Dubs and Cork !!
