It wasn't Mayo at their best - in fact it could even be their worst performance in the league so far - but sometimes winning when not playing well is good. Monaghan came to Castlebar with ambition to secure 2 league points that might have secured their Division 1 status and 'could have maybe should have' .....
Sunday 28th March 2010
Mayo took the scenic route on this one with Monaghan setting the pace. A poor first half performance was salvaged by a late Donal Vaughan goal and left it Monaghan 0-09 : Mayo 1-04 at half time. Mayo found themselves further behind and 6 points down soon after play resumed in the second half as Monaghan kicked 4 points without reply. But the revival came and for the remainder of the match Mayo outscored Monaghan by 1-08 to 0-02, including a tremendous goal from Aidan O'Shea. So as the final whistle blew we were 3 points ahead and 2 more league points in the bag.
