Davitts are the 2011 Intermediate champions after a 0-14 to 0-12 win over Burishoole in McHale Park today. But it was the proverbial game of two halves as Davitts needed 2 late points to survive. They led at half time by 0-10 to 0-02 but Burishoole pushed them all the way in a great second half comeback, led by Jason Doherty. .....
Davitts, on paper, really had this match all but won at half time - or so it seemed - as they had an 8 point advantage going into the break. But Burishoole manager Colm McMenamin must have hit the right tone at half time because Burishoole came back out firing on all cylinders and dominated the second half. The main talisman was Jason Doherty who (I think) scored 10 of the 12 Burishoole points on the day (9 of them from frees). They had reeled in Davitts and drew level on 12 point each with probably no more than 3 or 4 minutes left. Davitts star of the day, Michael Conroy, then kicked Davitts ahead and almost immediately Burishoole had a great match-winning goal chance which they failed to take. Davitts mid-fielder Ronan McNamara then got the safety point, with a tremendous long distance free into the wind, and they had survived the scare to take the honours. Congrats.
Davitts standout players today were Michael Conroy (scored 6 points) at corner forward and centre half back Colm Boyle.
