Club Mayo Cairde

On 5 Feb 2008 Club Mayo Dublin was setup at a well attended meeting in Harrington St. It had the support of not just fans but the players, team managers and the County Board. Four years later, almost to the day, the club has had its status terminated by the County Board to make way for a new supporters body, Cairde Mhaigheo. As a supporters club we fully understand the benefits of Cairde Mhaigheo for Mayo GAA and, without reservation, welcome the initiative. We feel it is imperitive that we make that absolutely clear.
However, from the outset we were concerned at (1) the overall approach to managing how the existing supporters clubs would be subsumed into the larger club and (2) how funds raised by the new club would be used.......

Hurling doesn't feature too often on the Mayo GAA pages but lest we forget the 2012 National Hurling League is also starting later this month. Mayo will be battling it out in Div 2B against Roscommon, Armagh, Meath, Kildare and London. Keith Higgins has been appointed captain for 2012 and in preparation for the league they played Sligo last weekend in a challenge game ... and it was success for Mayo on a scoreline 1-16 to 0-11. First league fixture is Sunday 26th Feb against neighbours Roscommon .... and looks like a double header for McHale Park on March 11th with Mayo v Meath in hurling at 12.45 followed by the football Mayo v Down at 2.30 ... and Keith Higgins will play for ???

It's only end of Jan but our senior footballers have already bagged 1 piece of silverware in 2012. On Friday night last they defeated NUIG in the FBD Home Final in McHale Park. It was a realtively easy win, if truth be told, on a final scoreline of 0-14 to 0-04 but just as important as the win was the winning start to 2012 with Mayo emerging with 4 wins in their first 4 competitive matches and the only team to survive the FBD League with a 100% record .....

The scoreline shows just how close it was as Ballintubber lose out by a single point to Corofin in the Connacht Club Semi-Final. Disappointing for the club for sure as they lost out by a similar margin to Killererin last year. Another season for the Mayo Champions has come to an end but with the Senior Div1A title added to their back-to-back county championship honours it's been a good year . Earlier in the day it was a similar outcome for Islandeady as they lost out to Clonbur in the Junior Final by 0-11 to 0-09. That means Intermediate Champions Davitts, alone, are still flying the Mayo flag
